Youth Drivers License Program

The Youth Drivers License program delivered by local RTO Desert to Coast is enabling 33 Wajarri youth access to affordable driving lessons / supervised hours, which would usually cost $75 per hour. WYAC will be able to contribute $65 per hour, due to Wajarri Enterprises’ donation. WEL’s donation will help to minimise the financial barrier for Wajarri youth who don’t have access to a car, or supervising driver to enable them to get their drivers’ licence.

To be eligible to complete a practical driving assessment, and receive a provisional driver’s licence in Western Australia, an individual is required to complete 50 hours of driving with a suitable supervising driver. The individual must also have a valid learner’s permit, requiring them to be at least 16 years old, take an eyesight test, pass the road rules theory test, show required proof of identity documents and pay a fee for the application, logbook and theory test.

As part of our continued commitment to community, WEL has provided a charitable donation to improve the accessibility of a driver’s licence for Wajarri youth.

“The Desert to Coast program is set to make a big impact on Wajarri youth through access to identification, a driver’s licence, and job opportunities. At WEL we are delighted that we can contribute to Wajarri people in such a meaningful way.”

Ehsan Haque, Wajarri Enterprises CEO.

The benefit of this program extends beyond giving 16–24year-olds the ability to access a driver’s licence, enabling an increase of identification within the youth of Geraldton. This will also have a positive impact on job prospects, giving youth access to opportunities in a wider range of areas and skillsets.

The Desert to Coast program directly links to Wajarri Enterprises Ltd.’s values and goals of providing opportunities for Wajarri people and supporting programs that benefit our community. WEL has committed to providing a donation next financial year that will allow for 66 additional places to be available within this program.
